Spoofing Alert

Several members have reported receiving calls that appear to be from Bay Atlantic FCU. The caller, claiming to be a credit union employee, says the member's account has been compromised. The member is then asked a series of questions about personal and financial information, like account numbers, social security numbers, card numbers, and PIN numbers.
These calls are examples of spoofing-- a scam tactic criminals use to copy a phone number or email address. Please be advised that Bay Atlantic Federal Credit Union will never call, text, or email you and request sensitive information. You should always question any business, institution, or agency that contacts you to ask for personal information or details.
Criminals are unfortunately able to spoof any number, including:
Financial institutions
Law enforcement officials
Social Security Administration and IRS
Debt Collectors and attorneys
Doctors and medical professionals
Friends and family members
These calls and emails often carry a sense of urgency. They will insist that this needs to be addressed immediately, and may use threatening language to pressure you into complying. In any case, it is always in your best interest to remain calm and think critically:
Calmly end the call. Do not use the callback button.
Do not reply to or click any links from a text or email.
Locate the business' verified phone number.
Call this number directly and explain the situation to a verified representative.
If the call/text/email was legitimate, you can handle the request now.
If it was a scam, you have successfully protected yourself (and potentially others!) from fraud by alerting the business.
If you are concerned that you have fallen victim to a spoofing scam or are concerned about the legitimacy of a call, please do not hesitate to contact the credit union immediately. The sooner you speak with a representative, the more options we have available to help mitigate loss. Call the credit union directly at 856-696-2525
